In advance of the 2-year anniversary of George Floyd's murder, FTC's senior editor Jared Council took a look at the best companies for diversity.

On the surface, the data reveals a positive trend, with companies making gains in diversity within their workforces. But while many companies are doing better for women, progress for Black and Brown employees remains slow and, in some cases, non-existent. Even at the companies deemed to have the best-in-class diversity practices.

We often sever the tie between sports heroes and their influence in the business world. Yet, 75 years after Jackie Robinson first made his MLB debut at Ebbets Field on April 15, it's crucial to remember that Robinson worked to break color barriers off the field—in the world of business.

His pioneering leadership in the business world set standards for Black Americans and Black athletes, such as Magic Johnson and LeBron James, who've parlayed their fame and multimillion-dollar salaries into successful business ventures. The Jackie Robinson Foundation has developed more than 1,800 young leaders, and it's set to open a museum in the baseball icon's honor in July. His son, David Robinson, is the founder of Sweet Unity Farms Coffee, a cooperative of more than 200 small family-owned coffee farms in Tanzania. Read more here.

Additionally, we also chatted with Wendy Rose Berry and Eugenia Marshall, the cofounders of intimate skincare brand
conditionHER. The entreprenuers discussed the challenges they've faced launching and scaling the company all while being mothers working mothers with corporate jobs.

Stay tuned for our next #CultureTalks on
April 28, which features Dean Newton, a general partner at Relevance Ventures. Newton will discuss Relevance Ventures being one of the few Native American-owned venture capitalist firms and how Relevance Ventures is promoting harmony and wellness within communities through its investments.

Meanwhile, remote learning has turned attention to the disparities in resources and academic outcomes for students in underserved communities.

How Former NBA Star Al Harrington Is Building A $100 Million Team Of Black Cannabis Entrepreneurs

In the late 1980s, when Al Harrington was nine years old, getting searched for drugs by police in Orange, New Jersey was routine. Most school day afternoons, after Harrington and his friends played kickball, they would hang outside the bodega on the corner of Tremont Avenue and Scotland Road. “All the time, the police would pull up, three or four cars, and they’d jump out, hands on their guns: ‘Everybody against the wall,’” the 42-year-old Harrington remembers. “It was scary—not knowing if they're going to lock you up.”
