Over the next week or 5 days, I'm going to share with you what I call the 1KS Roadmap: the roadmap YOU can use to get your newsletter's first 1K Subscribers.

What To Expect

Day 1: Getting Your First 10—NAY—20 Subscribers
Day 2: How To Get Social Media Subscribers
Day 3: How To Cross-Promote To Gain Subscribers
Day 4: Getting Down with O.P.A.'s to Gain Subscribers
Day 5: Creating Lead Magnet Magic to Gain Subscribers

Why 1,000?

Because 94.7% of newsletters never hit the 1,000 subscriber mark.

Okay that's a made up statistic, but probably not far off.

The real reason is this: the first 1K are the hardest—and if you can hit 1K, you'll have:

→ validation: proof a small arena full of people are interested in what you're writing about
→ momentum: the push to keep you going
→ opportunities: to sell, monetize, and showcase your expertise for future opportunities

First, let's set some expectations:

You're not going to hit 1,000 newsletter subscribers in a week.

Probably not even in a month.

Might even take a year (or more!) — it took me just over 10 months. With weekly publishing and promotion.

But hear me out: building an email list is one of the most important things you can do as an online creator.

I'm sure you've heard the saying, "Don't build your house on rented land" — well unlike social media platforms, you own your email list. It's a direct conduit to your readers, fans, subscribers, devotees.

And while most people wish they started building an email list years ago, today is the next best day to start.

Some Quick Assumptions...

1. You have signed up for an ESP (Email Service Provider) like…
   1. ​ConvertKit (my personal choice + affiliate)
   2. ​Substack​
   3. ​Revue​
   4. ​MailChimp​
   5. ​beehiiv etc.
      ​
      ​→ No ESP yet? I highly recommend ConvertKit. I’m a fan, user, and affiliate :)
      ​→ Still undecided? Narrow down your choice with this breakdown I wrote for each of the previously mentioned ESPs.
2. You have at least one social media account —OR— some traffic to a blog/website. While you can grow a newsletter without these, I wouldn’t recommend it. You need a promotional platform.

So let's start!

Your first bit of homework (ie. a few things I need you to do first):

1) Reply to this email letting me know where you're at in your journey to 1K Subscribers:

→ Building momentum (250-750 subscribers)
→ The home stretch (750-999 subscribers)
