Gun deaths surged to 20-year high amid pandemic, CDC reports.

While virtually all demographic groups saw the rate of gun homicides climb in 2020, the worst increases were experienced by Americans who were younger, male, or Black. Counties with the most poor residents had gun homicide rates 4.5 times larger than those with the fewest. Gun suicide rates in these poorest counties were 1.3 times higher.
    ...
The CDC report's authors were careful to caution that the study's analysis alone could not explain why the rate of Americans killed by guns increased. [But] the report pointed to a range of initiatives — from more affordable housing and tax credits to "greening initiatives" to improve vacant lots — that have been shown to cut down the risk of gun violence.
    ...
Early provisional death figures collected by the CDC have counted more than 17,000 gun homicides and 22,000 suicides through October last year. "If the observed patterns continue, then we would see that both firearm homicides and suicides will likely turn out to be higher than those in 2020," added [CDC official Deb Houry].

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - But there need to be clear rules and oversight. I think that generally speaking there is nothing wrong with searching inside the public domain for potential suspects or victim identification through the use of facial recognition. However, any images posted with viewing limitations should not be valid targets, i.e. if someone has their profile and images set to friends only, too bad the people granted express access would need to break the privacy. Consider it akin to walking down the street and recognizing someone vs. lurking around their house and watching them through the windows.
