Pixabay: RyanMcGuire The Nine of Wands tarot card is all about perseverance and determination. This card represents someone facing challenges and obstacles but who is determined to overcome them. This person has the strength and willpower to keep going, even when things are tough. They are fighters who never give up and always find a way to prevail. If you face difficulties in your life, the Nine of Wands suggests that you have what it takes to overcome them. Before getting into the nitty-gritty of this card, let's go over its appearance and history. The History And Appearance Of The Nine of WandsThe Nine of Wands tarot card has a long and storied history. First appearing in the early 15th century, the nine of wands was one of the original 22 tarot cards. It is thought to represent courage and strength in the face of adversity. The Nine of Wands is often associated with the Greek mythological figure Hercules. Hercules was known for his great strength and courage and was often depicted carrying a club or staff. This connection is thought to be due to the similarity between the Nine of Wands and the club suit in playing cards. Over the centuries, the Nine of Wands have been interpreted differently. Some believe it represents willpower and determination, while others see it as a sign of caution and self-protection. When you look at the card in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, you will see a man who is hurt as he clutches over a wand. He sees eight wands looming over him as he looks over his shoulder. This man is worn down and exhausted and feels as if he has been through some tough battles. Though his challenges are not completed yet, he knows that. What It Means When You Get The Nine of Wands In A ReadingThe Nine of Wands tarot card is traditionally associated with strength and determination. This card can represent the querent's inner strength and fortitude in a reading. It can also indicate that the querent may have to overcome some challenges in their life. Finally, the card can also signify that the querent is nearing the end of a difficult journey. Some other possible meanings of the Nine of Wands tarot card include feeling overwhelmed or bogged down by a situation, being in the midst of a challenging time, and feeling like you're about to give up. On the other hand, it indicates that you need to muster up some inner strength. It may also suggest that you are at a crossroads in your life and may face a difficult decision. The Nine of Wands can also have different meanings depending on the position it appears in a reading. For example, if the Nine of Wands is in the past position, it might represent something that the querent has had to overcome in their life. On the other hand, if it's in the future position, it might indicate that the querent will need to be strong and determined to reach their goals. Ultimately, the Nine of Wands tarot card reminds you that you have the strength to make it through even when things are tough. This card encourages you to tap into your inner reserves of strength and determination. There are a lot of similarities between the Nine of Wands and the Chariot. Though the Chariot is part of the Major Arcana, there are many parallels as both cards are about determination and not allowing anything to get in the way of attaining a goal. So as you remember, eight numerologically speaking means action, mastery, and achievement, whereas the nine is fulfillment and attainment. But at that time, when you attain something, you have the last set of obstacles to encounter, which is exhausting. So let's quickly go over that party example that I have used throughout most of this suit, starting from the Four of Wands, which represented the party. I won't go over much of the story again because you know enough of it. However, the Eight of Wands represented that impromptu party that the host set up. And the Nine of Wands would represent the exhaustion that comes with setting up a party at the last minute. It takes a lot of time and energy to send out invitations. Getting the party supplies and food is tiring, and it is exhausting to set up a party schedule. However, the determination that this host has is to have this party. Therefore, they are willing to go through the work to make it happen. What about the situation regarding Risa Green? You could say that Risa is determined not to rock the boat and get into any conflicts, so she agrees to keep helping out with her parents while caring for her son. That is also why she keeps jumping to the neighbor each time they ask her to help with something. Remember, Risa works too, so she has no time for self-care, and she doesn't believe she deserves it anyway because that is what her parents drilled into her head as she was growing up with them. And unfortunately, those who deal with trauma have that belief for that reason. In a sad way, it is incredible what you are willing to do for the sake of seeking peace and avoiding conflict, which is a trauma response. In Risa's case, it is, and the Nine of Wands would represent that. All I can say is that type of determination would create a lot of stress within the body, and I will cover more of that in the following podcast, which will cover the Ten of Wands. However, that will be for next time. Let's now go over what Nine of Wands reversed means. Nine of Wands ReversedWhen the Nine of Wands appears in reverse, you have given up due to being overwhelmed by the struggle. In fact, instead of fighting, you become defensive, and there could be paranoia as well. Sometimes the Nine of Wands reversed is not a bad thing. If you want to attain a goal that you no longer want, and the work you have to do to get it costs your physical and mental health, then giving up is the best option. Let's go over an example. You desire to get into one of the best drama courses because you think you may want to go into acting. However, the work it takes to audition to get into this course is causing you a lot of stress and worry. You cannot concentrate, you cannot sleep, and you are not able to eat. You also begin to wonder if it is worth going through all of this trouble to get into acting, which may or may not bring you success. You are starting to see the cons more than the pros when going through the trouble to get into this course. When that happens, it may be a good idea to give up and evaluate what you genuinely want to do in life since you don't think acting will be it for you. And besides, the trouble that you are going through to audition for this course is not worth it as you see it costs your wellbeing. So that is an example of when giving up is the best option. So now, let's see how you can apply this card upright to your life. How To Apply The Nine Wands To Your LifeWhen it comes to applying this card to your life, you want a reminder that if something is so essential to you, it is worth going through a lot of trouble to get it. For example, if you are determined to find the perfect home in an area you love, you know it will take a lot of work to attain it. You first have to sell your home, which takes a lot of work, and then find the right home to buy, which means visiting a lot of homes for sale. And that means having to stay up very late to negotiate a price you and the sellers can agree upon with the help of an agent. If you want something so badly, you will need to find it within you to muster up the strength to attain it. And the Nine of Wands is a good reminder that you need to work hard and fight obstacles to achieving what you want in life. Again, you have to want it badly to make it worth it! The next card I will discuss is the Ten of Wands, which will complete this suit before getting into the court cards. You’re a free subscriber to Miriam Reads Tarot .
