Lever Weekly: The System Will Not Protect Us

In the wake of the latest mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, just 10 days after a horrific killing spree in Buffalo, New York, many Americans are justifiably desperate to see their elected officials do anything they can to put an end to the carnage.

But as the American Prospect notes, our political system does not allow for real solutions to gun violence — and we cannot accept it any longer. And as The Intercept points out, the massacre in Texas should dispel the myth once and for all that police will save us from this violence — because that’s not actually their job.
