Then, boom. Stocks fall into a bear market and recession fears take over. Unfortunately, this is a reality many people are facing right now. Financial markets have experienced a massive selloff in recent months, and even the classic 60/40 investment portfolio — made up of 60% stocks and 40% bonds that's often a default recommendation — is getting clobbered. If you were planning on retiring soon, is it still safe to ditch your job given the current market environment? I answered that question in a recent story, and spoke with experts about how to make the transition into retirement as smooth as possible, even during a market downturn.
