The Storyletter - Raptor
You approach the lab and open the gate, Something seems off, fear’s a palpable taste, You rush inside, straight to the place Where the specimen resides to find...not a trace. There's a hole in the glass where the chamber was breached, Safety measures had been met, how could this be? The alarms were not sounded, was there no one to see? Then you stumble upon someone dead at your feet. You let out a scream that echoes the halls, When you notice that red has splattered the walls. A nightmare to be sure, one to give pause, As you hear the faint tapping of approaching claws. Its shadow appears, the form of cloak and dagger, Teeth like razors, they split, serrate, and shatter, You're desperate to flee but you know what's the matter, Since your studies have revealed no one’s faster than the raptor. Raptor is a work of fiction. Names, places, characters, and incidents are the product of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental.2022 Storyletter LLC Digital Substack Edition. All rights reserved.Cover design by Winston Malone courtesy of Midjourney and Canva Pro.storyletter.pressYou’re a free subscriber to The Storyletter.
