Do real estate investing platforms hurt housing affordability? Tech startups are making it easier for people to invest and manage property. Critics argue that these software companies are gobbling up the limited amount of available housing in the process, driving up costs and pushing out first-time buyers. But researchers argue that the lack of affordable housing has more to do with the limited supply, not the proliferation of tech-enabled real estate investing platforms. Read our report

Seattle caps food delivery fees: Lawmakers voted Tuesday to permanently implement a 15% cap on the fees that services such as Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, and others charge restaurants for food delivery. The cap has been in place since April 2020, when it was implemented as part of an emergency order at the onset of the pandemic.

High-tech bus ride: California tech startup Zum will provide bus service later this year for Seattle Public Schools students. The company’s software helps parents track their kids’ buses and drivers. Students tap an RFID-enabled pass when boarding vehicles to sign into the ride. Read more
