A new way to game: Seattle studio Neon, a spinout of HBO, is developing one of the first blockchain-based combat games. Each of the weapons, gear and other items players create in Shrapnel can be minted on the blockchain as NFTs, which means they can accrue value and be put up for sale in the game’s marketplace. “It digitally belongs to them,” said Neon CEO Mark Long, a game industry veteran and former Microsoft manager. “That’s the philosophy of blockchain. It’s completely decentralized. It’s the community owning and managing the project, or in this case, the game.” Read the story.
