Welcome to the 79th edition
Another week, another newsletter! I hope that you all had a great one 🤩
I’m on vacation for the first time in a long while. I hesitated about writing this edition or not, but here I am. I don’t want to disappoint :)
This edition will be short as I’m writing from a phone. And it is… extremely painful!
Going offline from time to time is good for mental health. It’s something I struggle a lot with. We’re all addicted to “information”, acting like junkies. We compulsively check our notifications a gazillion times a day, generate more noise for others, scrolling our life away… As if the real world was not enough, not interesting, not sufficient for us to just be.
Algorithms steal not only our attention, but our lives. They deprive us from the moments we should fully enjoy. We’re taking the train or the bus and don’t look at other people. We don’t look at the scenery. We don’t observe, we don’t enjoy, we don’t live as much as we could. We’re not really there. But we often don’t even realize. A second here, a minute there. A small video, checking the news once more, exploring the latest drama on Twitter, checking our various feeds.
The business of attention is lucrative, for sure. But can humanity afford the price? I’m not so sure.
When we’re online and don’t pay attention to life, we’re actually offline from reality. And the price is too high. Life is short. Much shorter than we realize.
Let’s instead come back online in reality and go offline from the imaginary world we all seem to be stuck into.
If you get value out of this newsletter, then become a supporter. This will give you the possibility to join the curious minds private community.
