Jen “Odd” Glantz here! I’ve been reading a lot of newspapers this week and discovered so many unusual jobs, side hustles, and businesses that I found myself so excited to write this week’s newsletter! Keep reading for a round-up of cool gigs: from being a Disco Nanny to selling training courses on how to be…SANTA! Ps. know someone who would adore this newsletter? Your Weekly Dose of Odd JobsBecome a Disco NannyI saw this article in the NY Times about Disco Nannies - nannies that people hire when they want to party all night and rest in bed hungover the next day. It’s popular in party travel spots, like Greece, and what makes this job different from a regular nanny is that they sleep over and take care of the kids all night and the next day, while the parents are often home (post-partying) and recovering in their bed. Could you offer something like this in a local party town? Virtual SantasIt’s almost the holiday season and I saw this video about a virtual Santa company that’s making tons of money. You can have live video chats with a Santa during the holiday time which might be some people’s dream (especially young kids). Seems like an easy company to start if you wanted to - OR could you replicate this idea with other things like the Easter Bunny or even license a character from a popular book or TV show and offer this virtual service? This is a cool business model to study. Implant Business Cards in People’s FingersI read an article about bringing business cards into the future AKA not making them be card form anymore. Some guy implanted his business card into a chip in his finger?? I know this article might not be readable because it’s featured on the WSJ website - but here are some innovate business card companies (this and this) . Think you could create something in this space? Create a Dating App That People Actually LikeI think there’s a huge opportunity to start a business in the dating space - especially “post-pandemic”. Dating trends change often, but the apps don’t really. We’re still just swiping left or right and having these long-winded convos with people, 75% of whom we never meet IRL because the convo fades. I really like how this company is innovating in the dating space (by skipping the intense profile details and long messaging and using audio instead). But I think if you’re fascinated by dating, there’s an opportunity in this space to switch things up and make it big. How would you do this? Find 50 people using dating apps and find out what they don’t like about dating that way. Take the top 5 things people say and make a new type of dating platform that makes those 5 things disappear or improves them drastically. I think it’s a million dollar idea if you can do it right. Make 6-Figures Answering QuestionsOne way to make extra cash —- or a lot of extra cash —- is to use your expertise to answer questions for other people. This guy made over $100,000 by answering questions about being an RV repair man. He did it by registering as an expert on JustAnswers but there are other sites like Guide Point that can get you cash for your knowledge. Not an odd job but…An odd thing these coworkers are forced to do when an employee arrives late The oddest show I’ve ever seen that’s 1000% worth a watch (The Rehearsal) You can play a video game that’s a job stimulator to show you what other jobs are like Today’s newsletter is sponsored by: OURSOURS believes that relationship health should be celebrated and accessible.
