Week 21 - Going Serverless Compute with ASP.NET Core and AWS Lambda
Hi there, Hope you are doing good. In this week's newsletter, I want to share with you all I had learnt about #serverless compute and how we do it in #dotnetcore space. I'll first start by introducing you to Lambda - a serverless compute service offered by AWS, which gives you the power of building highly scalable and distributed micro services in the cloud. Lambda supports almost all popular programming languages out there and onboarding an API to Lambda is quite simple as well. I have gone deep dive on how to build and deploy a simple dotnetcore API into AWS Lambda with an example that demonstrates interacting with DynamoDB from within the Lambda code. You can find the link here - https://referbruv.com/blog/deploying-an-aspnet-cor... Second, I want to share with you on how we can fully leverage the Lambda in building a Microservice architecture with an API Gateway pattern. All my career I have been only working with applications deployed on to the servers as a single unit - which is called as a Monolith architecture. I have learnt that Monoliths do have their downsides and an alternative is splitting up the services into individual entities which are deployed separately - these are called Microservices. AWS makes deploying microservices simpler by providing us a service called CloudFormation - which can help us setup our entire infrastructure as a code and deploy as a whole. I have explained about this and how we can deploy our ASP.NET Core API Lambda functions with Cloudformation and Serverless Model in detail - with illustrating examples that click. You can find the link here - https://referbruv.com/blog/creating-aspnet-core-mi... Do check out these articles and let me know your thoughts. Also do let me know how you feel about this new newsletter format - I just wanted to explain a bit more about the topic for the week and be more personal. yay or nay? Have a great week! Cheers! |
