Dozens killed in Thailand day care shooting

• On Thursday, a former police officer killed at least 34 people, including more than 20 children, during a shooting and stabbing massacre at a child care center in northern Thailand, according to authorities. [New York Times / Sui-Lee Wee and Hannah Beech]
• The gunman reportedly opened fire on staff outside the center before entering the building and continuing the attack. He then fled home, where he killed his wife and child before turning the gun on himself. It’s the deadliest mass murder by a single assailant in Thai history. [Bangkok Post]

Herschel Walker's abortion scandal gets worse

• On Wednesday, the Daily Beast reported that the woman who claimed Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker paid for her abortion in 2009 is also the mother of one of his children. [Daily Beast / Roger Sollenberger]
• The outlet, with the woman’s permission, revealed further details about her identity after Walker, who has campaigned on banning abortion with no exceptions and has frequently criticized absentee fathers, said the abortion story was a lie. [CBS News]
• Walker faces Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock in a close race that could determine which party controls the Senate. [CNN / Gabby Orr]
• While national Republicans have defended Walker, conservative activists and Republicans in Georgia worry that his troubles could hurt his chances of flipping the seat. [Washington Post / Annie Linskey and Cleve R. Wootson Jr.]
