Uvalde School Police Suspended

The Uvalde, Texas, school district yesterday suspended its entire district police force, about five months after a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School left 19 students and two teachers dead. Officers will instead take on other roles within the district as it continues to review and revamp the police department's management and policies, as well as hire a new police chief. 

The action comes a day after reports of the district hiring and then firing a Texas state trooper who was at the scene of the May 24 crime and is under investigation over her actions. The school district has been facing public scrutiny for the delayed law enforcement response. Five campus police officers from the district had been at the scene of the shooting, among nearly 400 officers, including the city's police, county sheriff's deputies, and state police.

The school district is requesting the Texas Department of Public Safety for additional help on campuses in the interim.
