MIDDI - Mr. Fix It
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much.Shopping for solutions instead of stuff should always be the priority. Yes, it’s fun to treat yourself, but the things we buy should have a clear purpose, not just take up space. Whenever I’m shopping, I try to imagine where this new item will live in my home and routine. If I’m not sure where it will physically fit or how soon I’ll be able to use it, it’s easier to walk away from. We all want to find ways to make our money go further and get the most out of what we already have on hand. When you need to “make it work,” the three products featured this week can help you do just that with ease and style. Happy saving! 1. OPI Nail Envy (£21.10) I was never a fan of base coats for my nails until I found this one from OPI (previously featured here). If I choose to spring for a manicure, I usually opt for shellac or gel so it lasts. But that process can take a toll on my nails, which is why I always use this treatment after removal and between manicures to keep my nails strong (i.e. no peeling, breaking or white spots). The formula dries quickly and creates a smooth base for any color you put on top of it, so you can help strengthen weak nails while giving them (and your wallet) a break from the salon for a while. 2. AllSaints Alcor Leather Belt (£99) I’d forgotten about the usefulness of the wide waist belt until recently. A wide waist belt not only shows off your figure, but it can also help you create different looks with the same pieces or give a second life to a dress or shirt that is maybe too big or cut in a way you no longer prefer. In the noughties, every outfit I wore was usually finished off with a belted waist (thanks, Patricia Field), but then I moved away from them. This black one with studs from AllSaints (previously featured here) is a reminder that once an alternateen, always an alternateen. 3. Stasher Reusable Silicone Bags ($7.99 and up) If you’re looking to cut out more single-use plastics from your life, I can’t recommend these bags from Stasher enough. Made from silicone, they can be used to store liquids, solid foods, that chicken you’re marinating for dinner … and that’s just their kitchen utility. Lately, I’ve been using them for traveling just as much as I do for food prep and storage. These bags, created by Kat Nouri, are perfect for storing jewelry, supplements and all of those glass bottles of serums you can’t afford to have break in transit. Scoop has now come to recognize the Pocket Bag as a treat bag. Something to think about … I am lucky to have many teachers in my life, starting with my incredible big sister. The list of sacrifices teachers make seems to get longer each year, so if you’re able, here are some ways to support educators as another school year begins. Last week on MIDDI … MIDDI is a weekly roundup of mid-priced beauty, fashion and home buys released every Monday. Have a product you’re searching for? Leave your suggestions in the comments. |
