The Storyletter - To Build a Contest
Running a contest can be daunting, challenging, fun, simple, difficult, and rewarding all at the same time. I figured that out during the lead up to the first annual S6 Contest here on The Storyletter. After the contest’s completion, I realized how much work goes into running a successful contest. I wanted to share what I learned along the way. By doing this, I hope to inspire others to try their hand at running a contest, or simply shed light on what people can expect next year when the S6 Contest returns. A Guide to the GuideIn this basic rundown, I’ll cover the costs involved, the development of the scoring process for the judges, and where and how participants submitted their stories. Of course, there are many ways to run a contest, each with their own tiny variations. Therefore, this isn’t by any means a comprehensive guide. Think of it as an introduction, of sorts. I’m also interested in user feedback to improve the process for next year.
