What is Stalking Jack the Ripper about?Polite society in 19th-century London placed many expectations on a noble young lady. Lord Wadsworth’s daughter, Audrey Rose, doesn’t want to play by society’s rules. She has zero interest in tea, gossip, or the latest fashions. Choosing instead to dissect cadavers in her uncle’s laboratory. A serial killer is terrorizing the women of London. The newspaper called him Leather Apron, but we know him today as Jack the Ripper. He’s mutilating prostitutes in the White Chapel neighborhood of London. When Audrey Rose discovers a personal connection to one of the victims, she decides she must help find the killer. Audrey Rose’s uncle and her uncle’s laboratory assistant, Thomas Cresswell, attempt to dissuade Audrey Rose from investigating the crimes. When the men realize they cannot stop her, Cresswell agrees to help her. Thomas Cresswell is an arrogant know-it-all. He and Audrey Rose quickly get into a love-hate relationship as they step on each other’s toes trying to solve the murders. With too many suspects to narrow down, and some hitting close to home, the duo gets themselves into some tricky situations. Will they catch Jack, or will they land themselves behind bars? What did I like most about Stalking Jack the Ripper?Audrey Rose was my favorite character in the book. I loved her determination all while being so innocent and naive. I couldn’t help but root for her. I saw parts of my daughters in Audrey Rose. However, I didn’t understand her fascination with Thomas Cresswell. Perhaps I won’t understand my daughter’s choice in men either. I enjoyed the STEM aspect of the story. My daughters attend a STEM school. It’s important to me that they become proficient in science and math. I’m happy this book shows science in a positive light. I can see one of my daughters in particular becoming a coroner or mortician. The mystery was a fun puzzle to solve. Not mind-bending, but fun, nonetheless. I wasn’t disappointed with the book’s simplicity. This is a YA book, so I didn’t have too many expectations of a complex plot. What did I like least about Stalking Jack the Ripper?I hated Thomas Cresswell. He’s an annoying, arrogant, and pompous ass. He’s not presented with any of the limitations of a savant but is granted extraordinary and perfect powers of observation. Who will enjoy Stalking Jack the Ripper?Fans of YA, whodunits, and murder mysteries are sure to enjoy Stalking Jack the Ripper. You’ll also enjoy this book if you are into girl power, women breaking gender roles, or scientific forensics stories. What is my overall opinion of Stalking Jack the Ripper?I highly recommend Stalking Jack the Ripper. It has a dark theme but is written in a light and fun way. This made the read enjoyable. This is the first installment in a four-book series. I’m hooked. I’ve already bought Hunting Prince Dracula, which is the next book in the series. How is Stalking Jack the Ripper rated?
What others are saying about Stalking Jack the Ripper?(I copied and pasted all quotes, and didn’t correct grammar or spelling.)
