Layoffs: Amazon to cut around 10,000 corporate and tech jobs; Meta slashes 726 in Seattle area 

• The reduction would be the largest in company history and is said to target those working on Echo devices and Alexa voice assistant, Amazon retail operations, and human resources. People familiar with the matter told GeekWire that the number is fluid, because the decisions are being made in individual divisions. Read more.

The impact of large cuts at Meta is also coming into focus in the Seattle area, where the Facebook parent employs more than 8,000 people.

• According to a Washington state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on Monday, 307 people in Bellevue, Wash., and 419 in Seattle will be laid off.  

In a new interview with CNN, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said that he plans to give away most of his fortune. He also offered up some financial advice to consumers and business owners during tough economic times. 

• Bezos said “it’s not easy” to figure out how to give his billions to philanthropy as he and girlfriend Lauren Sanchez are “building the capacity” for such an effort.

• For those who might not be one of the richest people in the world, Bezos also urged consumers and small business owners to reduce their risk by hanging onto cash and delaying big purchases ahead of a likely recession.

• The Azure Quantum Resource Estimator is a software tool that was originally developed for Microsoft’s internal use. Now it can also help outside developers figure out how much computing power they’ll need to execute a given quantum algorithm in a reasonable amount of time.
