December 2022

Every National Poetry Month we present Dear Poet, a multimedia education project that invites young people in grades five through twelve to write letters in response to poems written and read by award-winning poets. The poems and videos for Dear Poet 2023 are now available, featuring poets Richard Blanco, KB Brookins, Mahogany L. Browne, Marilyn Chin, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Danez Smith.

The submission period for Dear Poet 2023 will be open from January 9, 2023 through March 3, 2023.

Each poet will respond to selected student letters, which will then be published in a digital book during National Poetry Month.

To celebrate the holidays in December, share poems about Christmas, Chanukah, New Year’s, and more with our selection of holiday poems for kids and poems about beginnings, featuring poets such as Emily Dickinson, Christina Rossetti, and Robert Frost
