I recently updated Elezea’s About page with a new posting schedule:

• The main weekly post will now go out on Tuesdays. It will usually include an introduction/article, ~3 interesting and helpful software development / technology links to read, and some stray links to other fun things online.

• The Friday Edition will start going out… today. These will be short posts with five(ish) links to check out for your weekend reading/watching/listening enjoyment.

So, welcome to the first Friday Edition! Here are 5 things I think you might like.

1. We were on vacation a couple of weeks ago and I needed a fun, quick read. I ended up going with Cold Storage by David Koepp and it was everything I wanted it to be: completely ridiculous and impossible to put down. It reminded me of Michael Crichton at his best.

2. Speaking of books… somehow Anne Helen Petersen—in the unique way that she has with words—found a way to help me understand why I read a few pages of fiction every single night, no matter how tired I am. “I sleep better when I’m with someone else’s world before falling asleep into mine.”

3. I try to stay away from the “as a father of daughters” trope because it so often reveals our ignorance of the patriarchy and basic human decency. But dang. This review of the movie “Aftersun” is mostly a reflection on the father/daughter relationship and it really got to me.

   

4. Dirt’s review of the movie is also great: “That longing—the pull for some grip on the past, and the impression from home videos that you could find it—is the primary flavor of Aftersun, one of the few films to capture how it feels to have memory inflected by our ever-expanding digital archives.”

5. I’ve been using Pestle as my recipe app for a while, but someone recommended Crouton recently and it looks great too!
