The Intercept - I don’t like asking for money

And I know you probably don’t like being asked. But we have just five days left in our year-end fundraising campaign, and we’re still $260,000 short of our goal.

I’m not going to lie. Sending fundraising emails is probably my least favorite part of the job.

Especially in these times, with costs rising for pretty much everything, I know that you have many more urgent things to spend money on than donations. So believe me, if I didn’t truly have to send this email, I wouldn’t.

But here’s the reality: We have just five days left in our year-end fundraising campaign, and we’re still $260,000 short of our goal.

The kind of investigative journalism we do at The Intercept isn’t cheap or easy. It often takes weeks or months of poring through government documents and developing sources to break a single story. That’s why investigative reporters are increasingly becoming an endangered species.

So, even though I wish we didn’t have to, I’m asking you to make a donation to our crucial year-end fundraising campaign to ensure we’re in the strongest possible position going into 2023. And as a special bonus, if you donate today, we won’t ask again for the remainder of this drive.

To help support the hard-hitting, independent investigative journalism of The Intercept, please make a year-end donation.

I’m proud that The Intercept doesn’t keep our journalism behind a paywall. For democracy to function and survive, all citizens need to be informed, not just those who can afford to pay. And when I look at the billions spent on TV ads by drug companies, the auto industry, or insurance companies, I find it very hard to believe that it has no influence on coverage.

We’ve set a year-end fundraising goal of $500,000 by December 31. Click here to make a donation of whatever you can afford and help us reach that goal.
