Welcome to the final Top 3 in Tech newsletter of 2022! This is issue #73 in total (damn how time flies). I'm still debating the best format for the newsletter and where to take it in 2023, so it would mean the world to me if you could respond to this email with a few lines of feedback - what do you enjoy the most, what do you usually skip reading etc. That helps me a ton to create the best possible content for you.

1. Tech interview tips

​Tech interviews are notoriously difficult - sometimes even more than the actual job itself. This is especially true at big tech companies that often have algorithmic / whiteboarding questions that (if you ask me) don't represent real-world development work at all.

But even other companies tend to get a lot of applications, especially in the current market economy. That means you, as the applicant, is in steep competition with lots of other developers.

And since the company is obviously out to hire the best candidate for the job, that means it's entirely on you to prove yourself. Which isn't always easy, especially if you're early on in your career.

That's why I want to share with you a Twitter thread I came across a few weeks ago with the top 10 things to help you stand out in any interview. It's written by a CTO at Deloitte with lots of hiring experience, so he knows what he's talking about.

Now keep in mind that all the advice in the thread obviously won't apply to every single situation. All companies and hiring managers are different, and so some might put more weight on certain things compared to others. But regardless, I think the thread is a great read and includes a ton easily implementable tips that will greatly improve your chances when applying for a tech job.

2. SvelteKit 1.0

If you're a front-end developer, you've most definitely heard of (and probably worked with) modern JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue and Svelte. They're component-based and offer a great developer experience when building web applications.

But these frameworks are usually somewhat barebones. They don't come with all the features built-in to quickly get started with real, production-level applications and sites. That's where the term "metaframeworks" come in - like NextJS and Remix for React, NuxtJS and Gridsome for Vue, and now... SvelteKit for Svelte!

Metaframeworks offer a ton of extra functionality on top of their respective component framework, like server-side rendering, data fetching, how to structure your app etc.

I've enjoyed working with Svelte for a long time, but it has clearly been missing that go-to metaframework to build any real-world applications. And now, after 2 years in development, SvelteKit 1.0 has just been released as the official recommended way to build Svelte apps!

I'm super excited for this, and definitely encourage you to give it a try:

3. Hyperplexed

A few weeks ago I came across an amazing YouTube channel for front-end developers. It's called Hyperplexed, and they have some of the best coding tutorials I've ever seen.

Most of the videos are re-creating small and awesome creative demos from around the web. And they're always amazingly broken down into small steps so anyone can follow the logic and practice building slick animations and great UI's.

Some of my favourite videos include "Are you good enough to be a front end developer", "Award winning animation with only 20 lines of CSS" and "How to take your front-end skills to the moon"

Definitely recommend checking them out (and the entire channel) if you're into a front-end development and want to improve your creative skills 🔥
