As a spiritual follow-up to one of the best-selling games of all time, “Starfield” could be the next killer app for Xbox. At least, that’s what Microsoft hopes. 
  • The upcoming science-fiction action role-playing game is a potential blockbuster from Bethesda Game Studios, which became part of the Xbox network when Microsoft acquired its parent company ZeniMax Media, in 2020. "Starfield" is also a pawn in Microsoft’s battle with the FTC. Games writer Thomas Wilde has all the details.

Cardiac Dimensions raised $35 million to support the testing and marketing of its system to treat a condition associated with heart failure.

  • The Kirkland, Wash.-based medical device company’s Carillon Mitral Contour System is designed to tighten a leaky mitral valve in the heart. Read more.

Group14 Technologies, a fast-growing battery materials startup, is embroiled in a trade secrets dispute with a U.K.-based company developing similar technology.

  • In a lawsuit filed in Seattle, Group14 alleges that Nexeon violated a non-disclosure agreement and used its secret, proprietary information in patent applications. Read more.

T-Mobile is expanding its airline partnerships via a new deal with Delta Air Lines that will provide free in-flight Wi-Fi to all passengers, regardless of their wireless carrier.

  • The Bellevue, Wash.-based company already offers free Wi-Fi to its own subscribers on Delta, Alaska, American and United. Read more.

Former Twitter VP Mike Davidson is joining Microsoft to lead design and research for the tech giant’s Web Experiences organization.

  • The move is a return to Redmond, where Davidson worked for msnbc.com after the online news outlet acquired his citizen journalism startup Newsvine. Read more.

Amazon’s 18,000 layoffs appear to be the extent of its job cuts, for now.
