As much as we may fight it, we all crave structure in one form or another. In our schedules, our public systems, and even our clothing, we seek out step-by-step procedures with proven solutions or objects that are strong and reliable. Structure helps us make sense of our days and our surroundings.

This device may be pricey, but your diligence will be rewarded with serious results. And now, I have my eye on the newer version, which has three different modes for lifting, tightening and toning the skin and muscles. The price above is for a kit that includes everything you need to get started, like their Aqua Gel and Silk Crème Activators. Pro Tip: I prefer to use mine with plain old aloe vera gel.

Playing with shapes and proportions is one of the things that makes fashion fun. A simple belt can transform your silhouette in seconds and allow you to freshen up looks and items you may have grown tired of. This leather one from & Other Stories (part of the H&M group) keeps a low profile but is just wide enough to cinch in your waist, adjust the fit of your trousers or hold thicker garments like dresses and sweaters in place. And it works just as well with casual and more formal outfits. Black and brown are essentials, and I’ve also picked up the dark green option.

3. 17 Stories Carone Ladder Bookcase (on sale for £57.99)

In our last flat, I didn’t have room to fit both of our nightstands in our bedroom. While searching for a creative bedside storage solution, I found this skinny, white shelving unit on Wayfair. Easy to assemble and surprisingly sturdy, it’s only 33 cm wide, tucking into a corner beautifully. I have placed it on both carpeted and hardwood floors now without anchoring it to the wall and haven’t had any issues, but it does come with attachments for mounting. I use mine in our reception room and love how it blends into the space while adding storage and visual interest.
