Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — January 27, 2023

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Please feel free to forward this along to friends.
Documentary I’m watching
Winnebago Man (Amazon, YouTube, Apple TV). From Wikipedia: “Winnebago Man is a 2009 American documentary film directed by Ben Steinbauer. The film follows the Internet phenomenon created by a series of twenty-year-old outtakes from a Winnebago sales video featuring profane outbursts from a salesperson named Jack Rebney. Originally intended as an inside joke, the video spread across the globe—first on VHS and then via YouTube and other online video sites, earning the salesman the title of ‘The Angriest Man in the World.’ The documentary explores the story of the clips’ origins and how, two decades later, it affects the reluctant star.” You can find the trailer here.
Blog post I’m reading
“The Great Contemplation: Reflections on the impact of the ‘4-Hour Workweek’ 15 years later” by Paul Millerd (@p_millerd). From the post: “They had never read it. If they did, they would have found that it is a philosophical wake-up call disguised as a bunch of life hacks. The whole book is basically him channeling the energy of poet Mary Oliver and yelling, ‘Don’t waste your wild and precious life!’” Hat tip to Jim O'Shaughnessy for bringing this to my attention.
Poems I’m reading
GOLD by Rumi, translated by Haleh Liza Gafori (@halehliza).
What I’m wearing for skiing and touring
ORTOVOX Merino Thermovent Hoody. From the description: “The HOODY is made of 99% fine merino wool. Thanks to the mesh structure in the torso and arm areas, this super-lightweight base layer wicks moisture away perfectly and provides ventilation. And the air pockets in the special structure make it particularly warm. Merino wool is naturally temperature- and moisture-regulating. A small pack size and ideal weight-to-warmth ratio will delight all tourers who value comfort and low weight.”
Quote I'm pondering
“I want to risk hitting my head on the ceiling of my talent. I want to really test it out and say, ‘Okay, you're not that good. You just reached the level here.’ I don't ever want to fail, but I want to risk failure every time out of the gate.”
— Quentin Tarantino

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with this podcast episode, in which Deep Work author Cal Newport interviews me for an article he wrote for The New Yorker titled “Revisiting ‘The 4-Hour Workweek’: How Tim Ferriss’s 2007 manifesto anticipated our current moment of professional upheaval.”
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — Magic Spoon Cereal, high-protein breakfast cereal.
I’m aiming to lean out in the new year, and I’ve been enjoying this keto-friendly, high-protein breakfast cereal, often with low-sugar oat milk. It looks and tastes just like sugary cereal from your childhood, but each serving has 0 grams of sugar, just 3–4 grams of net carbs, and 13–14 grams of protein—perfect for a low-carb or active lifestyle. Forbes has called Magic Spoon “the future of cereal,” and Time magazine included them in their list of “Best Inventions” of 2019. Cocoa is my favorite flavor of their many options—Fruity, Frosted, Cocoa, Peanut Butter, Blueberry Muffin, Cinnamon Roll, Cookies & Cream, and Maple Waffle. So why not start your year off on the right foot? Subscribers to 5-Bullet Friday can get $5 off of any orders by clicking here. This deal is only available at this exclusive link, which will auto-apply your discount at checkout.
