Mehldau was born in 1970 and grew up in Florida and Connecticut, eventually moving to New York City to study jazz at the New School in the late ‘80s.¹ Mehldau’s new album, Your Mother Should Know, is a collection of solo jazz piano renditions of Beatles songs, beginning with a blue note-ridden interpretation of “I Am the Walrus.” We’re also playing After Bach, Mehldau’s 2018 record on which he plays five Bach preludes and fugues, and successively reworks each one through a modern lens.
