You probably know Travis Kalanick - founder of Uber.

Here's his story, shortened, to inspire you:

1. At a young age until 18 he was selling Cutco knives door-to-door.

2. At 18 launches his first business, New Way Academy. Failed.

3. In high school, Travis enrolled at UCLA to study computer engineering.

4. In 1998 Travis dropped out of college and joined Scour (similar to Napster) as one of their first employees.

5. In 2000 Scour filed for bankruptcy protection.

6. In 2001, along with Scour’s former engineering team, Travis started Red Swoosh (similar to Scour).
But he managed to somehow avoid copyright infringement lawsuits.

7. In 2005 he raised $1.7 million from Mark Cuban.

8. In 2007 Akamai Technologies acquired Red Swoosh for $18 million.

9. In 2007-2008 he began investing in startups.

10. In 2008, at the LeWeb conference, he heard about an idea for a limo timeshare service from Garrett Camp (cofounder of StumbleUpon).

11. In March 2009, founded Uber together with Garrett Camp.

12. 2009 - ... first failed attempts, struggles, protests and lawsuits from all over the world...

13. In 2017 Uber's valuation is $70 billion.
