Polkadot Updates

🔴 ⭕️ Relay Chain

total supply - ~1.29b DOT | staking - 49.3% | parachains & crowdloans - 10%

• Polkadot 0.9.39-1 was released with HIGH upgrade priority. Validators are asked to upgrade as soon as possible. This security release fixes a potentially critical bug in parachain validation, due to a vulnerability in the wasmtime library. See here for details. 

• Block production time on Polkadot relay chain slowed down yesterday (from average 6 seconds to ~ 9 seconds) due to a validator issuing numerous dispute requests. This also had an impact on parachain block times. Block time is now back to normal, and a permanent fix is being developed for the issue.

🔴 🏛 Governance

• Referendum 106, proposing to open new HRMP channels between Statemint and HydraDX, Kapex, Ajuna, Pendulum, and Litentry, was passed.

• Referendum 107, upgrading the Polkadot relay chain to runtime v9370, has passed. 

• Referendum 108, a community proposal seeking to fix the genesis registration for the Manta parachain, is currently failing. 

• Referendum 109, proposing to set the Polkadot Auction Schedule for 2023, is currently passing. 

• Referendum 110, an external motion (i.e. from the Council) to fix the genesis registration for Manta, is currently passing. 

• Motion 360, to fund Grabber, a tool for incentivization crowdloan participants, was not passed.

• Motion 362, to register a new genesis WASM for Manta, was passed and has now become Referendum 110.

• Motion 363, to fund the continuous maintenance of Polkassembly, was passed and executed.

• Motion 364, to change the configuration of three operations on fast-unstake pallet, staking pallet, and nomination pools pallet, was passed and executed. It will become a Referendum soon.

• Motion 365, to fund Sublab to develop tools for developers in the Substrate ecosystem, is under consideration.

• Motion 366, to fund the ops and maintenance of PolkaWorld for the next 3 months, is under consideration.

• Motion 367, to fund Sub0 2023, is under consideration.

• Referendum 108, proposing a Bounty for collators of system parachains, has been approved. 

• Referendum 109, to fund Polkadot Safari, 2-day conference in Kenya, the first ever Polkadot conference in Africa, is being confirmed.

• Referendum 111, to fund Subsquid’s infrastructure and maintenance cost, is currently passing.

• Referendum 114, by Bittsensor with no contextual information, is currently failing.

• Referendum 115, for Milestone 4 of the Canary Network X Polkadot Network Experience, is currently passing by a slim margin. 

• Referendum 116, to fund the Kusama & Polkadot Prodigy Hackathon, is currently failing.

• Referendum 117, to fund the dubbing of the SUB0 official playlist into Spanish, is currently failing. Note that the proposer asked the community to reject the proposal.

• Referendum 118, to update the Kusama runtime, is still passing.

• Referendum 121, to fund HackaDOT 2023, a Polkadot Hackathon in Seoul 9 - 11 June, is failing.

• Referendum 122, cancelling some early OpenGov referenda which were wrongly scheduled, is now up for vote. 

• Referendum 123, to fund the creation of a ParaSpell XCM SDK & XCM UI Spending Bounty, is currently failing.

• Referendum 124, to fund PolkaGate 2nd milestone, is up for vote.

• Ajuna published The Advantages and Disadvantages of Blockchain Gaming.

• Astar announced the Astar Gaming Guild - a community for next-gen games built on Astar.

  • Astar announced a partnership with Shibuya City (a city in Tokyo).

• Crust announced the start of its internal testing phase for Crust Cloud, a web3 toolsuite for all decentralized storage and hosting needs,

• Kylin announced its 2023 roadmap.

• Mangata published Auto-Compounding via XCM.

• Moonbeam announced v2 of Moonbase Alpha, its dApp interface. New features include improved staking & governance displays, easy-to-navigate sections, & more.

  • StellaSwap, a decentralized exchange on Moonbeam, announced an integration of $ASTR.

  • Derek Yoo (Moonbeam founder) spoke about Cross Chain Protocol Architectures: Key Trends and Challenges in 2023 at ETHDenver.

  • 0xcarrier, a token and NFT bridge from Wormhole & Automata, announced an integration with Moonbeam and Acala, bringing its zero-tracking policy (even across chains) to the Polkadot ecosystem.

• Nodle announced Smart Missions, unveiling Nodle's strategy & goals for the future, and introducing the new generation of smart contracts for the mobile computing platform.

• OriginTrail hosted a Twitter space with its founders, Robert Metcalf (Internet pioneer & formulator of the law of network effects) and The Kusamarians.

  • OT announced that its Decentralized Knowledge Graph has reached more than 100,000 AI-grade Knowledge Assets.

• peaq now enables people to connect real IoT devices to the network following the announcement of peaq control, a dApp that works as the command center for connected devices.

• Phala announced its 2023 roadmap.

• SubID (by Subsocial), a dashboard for users to manage their Polkadot portfolios, announced the completion of batch 1 of its treasury proposal for continued development.

• Unique partnered with fashion brand Dundas to mint proof-of-attendance NFTs for attendants of its show at the Paris Fashion Week.

• CLV and Integriteereleased new ecosystem updates.

🌎 Community & Ecosystem

• Polkadot co-founder Robert Habermeier discussed Polkadot’s blockspace-centric future.

• The Polkadot ecosystem map created by dotinsights, SubWallet, & Parity, now spans over 540 projects across 29 categories.
