The market for Seattle-area office space is “clearly struggling” and “highly volatile” as tech layoffs and hiring freezes have an impact, according to a new report from commercial real estate firm Kidder Mathews. Vacancy rates in the Seattle region jumped to 11.2% in the first quarter of 2023 — nearly double pre-pandemic levels. “Looking forward, future office demand remains a big question,” the report said. 

AI-powered chatbots are already changing how professors teach, University of Washington educators said during a panel discussion this week. Professors from a variety of departments and disciplines offered observations on using ChatGPT in the classroom.

Washington state lawmakers approved legislation to limit robocalls, but Kush Parikh, the CEO of Seattle startup Hiya, which makes tech to reduce unwanted calls, said “just making a call illegal won’t necessarily prevent it.” Read more.
