Wrong number for T-Mobile? Another look at jobs promise made before Sprint merger

T-Mobile dials back: Back in 2019, T-Mobile's then-CEO John Legere (above) promised that the company's $26.5 billion Sprint merger would create thousands of jobs, and chided critics who would “mislead and scare people into thinking that their made-up ‘numbers’ about jobs at the New T-Mobile are accurate.” 

Three years after the deal was done, T-Mobile employs 9,000 fewer people than the combined Sprint and T-Mobile did shortly after completing their merger. Responding to GeekWire’s inquiries this week, T-Mobile insisted it has lived up to its jobs pledge. Read more.

The University of Washington is chasing research funding from the CHIPS and Science Act, which aims to bolster U.S. chip manufacturing and research. The UW is spearheading a proposal submitted to the U.S. Department of Defense focused on quantum computing and is a partner on three other DoD proposals, which together seek more than $500 million in funding.

Microsoft’s digital identity business has a new connection to LinkedIn. The Microsoft-owned business social network will use the company’s Verified ID technology to let companies give their employees a way to prove to the outside world that they’re not fibbing about their place of work. Read more.
