One Big Headline

Toronto Gold Theft

Canadian authorities announced they are investigating the theft of about $15M in gold and valuables that were stolen from a holding cargo facility at the Toronto Pearson International Airport this week. No suspects have been identified as of Friday.

The gold and valuables were transferred to the facility after being taken off a plane Monday evening. Authorities said the thieves accessed the public side of a warehouse that is leased to a third party outside the airport's security to get to the loot. They also said nothing unusual about the handling of the shipment was noticed until the gold and valuables disappeared from the warehouse. See the open questions in the case here and a brief history of airport heists from around the world here

The theft joins a list of other major heists in Canada in the last two decades, which include the 2011 and 2012 thefts of roughly 3,000 tons of maple syrup valued at $14.4M, which were stolen from a storage facility in Quebec.

The Pillow for Side Sleepers

There are few worse experiences when you're trying to sleep than sinking into your pillow and feeling your ear make contact with the mattress—a feeling matched only by a pillow so uncomfortable, your neck sticks out at a 45-degree angle.

Today, we're sharing a story from reader Rose Anne H. in Alberta, Canada.

"It may seem a small thing, but a stranger invited me to take the empty seat beside her in the front row at a concert. I'd arrived early, fully expecting to get a good seat, but everyone else in the audience apparently had the same thought. The few seats remaining by the time I arrived were directly in front of large speakers, which, of course, blocked a significant segment of the stage. No seats were assigned, but I was a bit shy about walking/looking around for other vacancies and didn't recognize any familiar faces. I sat by the speakers. Not three minutes later, a lady came up to me and asked me if I'd like to use the vacant seat beside her. Front row, center. One of the best seats in the house. It was absolutely lovely of her."
