🇪🇺 Zalando and Booking are the only two European tech companies that will have to comply with the EU’s set of more rigorous online rules, the European Commission announced yesterday.

Context: Last year the EU agreed on a landmark law that aims to regulate content and transparency on the Internet — the Digital Services Act.

The rules will apply to all online platforms, search engines and marketplaces that operate in Europe; but while startups and smaller companies have until next year to comply with the new rules, the biggest players — those that have more than 45m active users — will have to adjust their operations as of August 25. They’ll also have to follow a specific regime of stricter rules.

More to come? Brussels is still investigating up to five companies that might fall into this basket (which reportedly includes Swedish Spotify).

Riverlane, which is building operating systems for quantum computers, has raised a €15m Series B round.
Zaptic, an operations platform for manufacturing companies, has drummed up $10m in Series A funding led by Molten Ventures.
CarbonChain, a platform for businesses to monitor carbon impact, has raised a $10m Series A.
Ciliatech, which is developing a treatment for glaucoma, has raised €3.5m in Series A funding.

💰 Pre-seed & seed

Reverion, a Munich-based startup building fuel cell technology and plug-and-play clean power plants, has raised an €8.5m pre-Series A bridge round. It shared the pitch deck it used with Sifted.
Plumery, a banking infrastructure startup launched by fintech veteran Ben Goldin, has raised a €2m equity and €2.3m convertible debt seed round — the founder tells Sifted if JP Morgan used Plumery for its Chase bank, it could cut down its tech hires from 1,000 to just 30.
Productive Machines, which builds AI to streamline the machinery industry, has announced €2.2m in seed funding.
ESG management platform Infyos has raised £1m led by Pale Blue Dot.
