Resources
Designing and Coding for Voice
An overview of simple interactions for voice command or speech recognition software users, and the accessibility barriers that can emerge.
Foundations: accessible names and descriptions
An element's name, or accessible name, is how it's identified. An accessible description provides additional information, about the element, that complements the accessible name.
Five pieces of advice for more accessible websites
On March 29, WebAIM published an annual accessibility report. Unfortunately, the results are devastating, as usual. To improve stats for the next year, start with these five quick wins that will make your site much more accessible.
Don't Override Screen Reader Pronunciation
With the best of intentions (or branding panic) some may seek to force screen readers to announce content as they (are told to) expect.
Establishing metrics for accessibility ROI
For accessibility ROI, your goal is to minimize the cost of disruption by minimizing the accessibility defects. Gathering data will help you measure your success.
Accessibility and Design Systems: The Deep-Dive Q&A
Following-up on our live panel, our experts are back to answer the top questions on accessibility and design systems in this deep-dive Q&A.
Exposing Field Errors
I compare two types of live regions along with aria-describedby and aria-errormessage.
VPAT and ACR
A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a document that can be used to indicate how digital products meet accessibility standards. Formalized templates are available for Section 508, WCAG, EN 301 549, and a combination of all of these guidelines. A completed VPAT for a particular product is called an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR), though "VPAT" is also often used to describe the completed document. VPATs and ACRs are typically used in procurement processes for vendors to provide documentation of their product's accessibility to entities considering purchasing or using them.
