To Greed or Not to Greed? That is the question - Issue #7

Greed: To or not? FintechWeekend Issue #7

April 30, 2023

tldr;

Who should be blamed? Fintech founders excessively able to hype their companies, uncautious buyers, or overwhelming regulators?

Let’s Recap

  • Regulators were particularly severe in 2022

  • 2023 doesn’t seem more promising for fintech, businesses and customers

  • The US seem one of the countries with the most uncertain regulatory frameworks

FinTech Weekly Perspective

To greed, or not to greed? That is the question—Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous control, Or to take arms against a sea of fraudsters, And, by opposing and compliant acceptance, end them?

Sorry for modifying this immense piece of art, but it fits the purpose of today’s newsletter.

If you thought that the action of regulators had stopped in 2022, 2023 doesn’t seem to be more promising.

We decided to analyze the top CeFi lawsuits of 2022, and we noticed that there are some points in common:

Top CeFi Lawsuits of 2022 – Tha Many Ways CeFi Broke

All this to say that our financial and economic systems are living crises that weren’t just born from natural economic cycles.

In a mix of tech hypers and fraudsters, greedy buyers, and overwhelming control, CeFi is challenged, people further lose faith in centralized institutions, and the whole system fails (again) – favoring DeFi.

If the piece from Hamlet questioned whether is better to live or die, our piece questions who’s responsible for the wave of lawsuits that hit the fintech industry: fintech founders able to hype their fintech companies during one of the most thriving periods for the tech space; buyers too greed to be cautious – precisely for the positive wave of investments in fintech; or regulators, too enthusiastic about control, even when it’s not necessary?

Moreover, what does this mean for all those centralized businesses that just want to be innovative?

To quote Manzoni, posterity will judge.
