Flow State - Stars of the Lid
You’re on the free tier of Flow State, the weekday newsletter that recommends and contextualizes instrumental music to work to. The paid tier unlocks our daily Spotify playlist, gets you our weekly Tuesday mix, and removes this promotional preamble. Good morning. Today we’re listening to Stars of the Lid, an ambient duo from Austin, TX. Despite their being ambient canon, the last time we featured them was March 2019. Adam Wiltzie and Brian McBride formed Stars of the Lid in 1993 and put out eight LPs between 1995 and 2007. The name Stars of the Lid refers to “your own personal cinema, located between your eye and eyelid,” according to McBride.¹ We’re playing their two best-known records, both of which are two hours long and were put out by Kranky: And Their Refinement of the Decline from 2007 and The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid from 2001. And Their Refinement of the Decline - Stars of the Lid (120m, no vocals) The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid - Stars of the Lid (120m, no vocals) We wish you a great start to your week.
