When staff writer Zoe Vanderweide started testing for our new guide to women’s white T-shirts, she didn’t expect to find an obvious favorite. Surely, she thought, people with different style preferences and body types wouldn’t all gravitate toward the same tee.

But after poring over hundreds of photos and customer reviews, personally washing and wearing 40 shirts, and enlisting a panel of testers, a clear winner emerged.
