Security dispute: A security firm alleges that Microsoft misused its database of more than 360 million compromised account logins and passwords, culled from the dark web. 

  • Hold Security says Microsoft didn't keep its promise to destroy copies of credentials not associated with Microsoft logins after using them to help secure its own customers.

  • The suit, filed in Seattle this week, touches on two of Microsoft's biggest acquisitions, LinkedIn and GitHub; a Twitter exchange between two well-known figures in cybersecurity; and the tech giant's efforts to disrupt the Trickbot malware.

  • Microsoft says the allegations mischaracterize its agreement with the firm, and the company plans to ask the court to dismiss the suit. Read more
