We’re in the thick of graduation season. I vividly remember my college graduation because it was one of the worst days of my life. I had spent four years earning TWO degrees and I was about to walk across a stage, grab a diploma, and then move back home to my parent’s house without a job, without any money, and without a clue what to do next.

My degrees were in poetry and journalism. My resume was mostly blank. Nobody would hire me. I was felt so lost and so low.

But looking back, what I didn’t realize then, and what none of my college professors told me, was that you, YES YOU, have to always work to create your own opportunities.

Success didn’t find me. I found a million ways to go after it myself. I started a blog and that led me to my first paid writing gigs, an eventual full-time gig as a copywriter, and way down the road - a 6-figure book deal.

CREATE YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITIES, my friend. Make it odd. Make it unusual. Make it something people need.
