One of the new frontiers of foundation model research is the ability to augment large language models(LLMs) with external information. These type of techniques attempts to addresses some of the major  limitations of LLMs such as the inability to access recent events, a tendency to fabricate information, difficulties in processing low-resource languages, a lack of mathematical proficiency, and an ignorance of the passage of time.
