Everyone’s a creator now! At least that’s the sentiment shared by the folks who visited VidCon 2023 and broke it down for the rest of us. Amanda Perelli at Business Insider shared this observation, noting that many attendees at the event were there to learn more about creating content.

Now I wonder how many people in the Buffer community, have shifted from a content consumer > content creator mindset. And I made a poll about it! Take it (please) — I’m curious 👀.

The rapid advancement of AI has spurred debates among creators of all types. Some see AI as a threat, primed to replace human creators and automate creativity. Others, like Stew Fortier, see it quite differently.

Stew is CEO of Type.ai, and he shares practical advice on collaborating with AI for creators to replicate.

• Get your inspiration for content creation outside AI: Stew's unique strategy for gathering inspiration is fishing where others aren't. He suggests that reading old books or repurposing ideas from forgotten classics can lend the aura of novelty to your work. By exploring non-mainstream sources, he can offer a richer tapestry of understanding in his writing. Stew also encourages engaging with diverse perspectives. Stepping outside one's usual bubble and conversing with individuals who see the world differently can offer a fresh viewpoint.
• Treat AI as a tool for augmentation, not replacement: For Stew, AI is a "semi-conscious brainstorming partner," a second brain that helps articulate thoughts more effectively. Consider using AI as sitting in a room with your most creative acquaintance. This interaction could fill you with ideas, making your initial idea grow into a much more fleshed-out vision, a process that takes time to achieve if you were to spend the same amount of time at your desk alone.

• Maximize the benefits of AI by using it with intention: Stew emphasizes that humans bring context, creative vision, and editorial input that give AI the material to work with. Switch the roles and have the AI ask you questions to help enhance your ideas. So even if your vision is a bit vague, it's important to know what you want to write about.

   

• Elevate your creative process with AI: For Stew, the primary advantage of AI in the creative process is that it can lower the 'activation energy' required to kick it off. You don't need to arrive with a fully-formed idea or unwavering conviction about a topic. You can begin with a vague direction, and the tool, due to its generative and additive capabilities, can help you get to something intriguing and viable more quickly.

📱 Social Tip of The Week from Mitra, Buffer’s Social Media Manager 

Struggling to come up with some captions for your social posts? Check out Buffer’s AI Assistant! I like to use this feature to help me brainstorm when I just can’t seem to come up with the right words. Here are a few prompts I like to use for brainstorming and inspiration:

• “Write a caption to promote this blog from [account name’s] Twitter: [copy/paste blog text]”
• “Write a caption about [topic]”
• “Write a tweet with a question about [topic] that we could ask the [social account name] community”
• “Reword this caption: [caption goes here]”

It’s pretty common that I generate multiple responses when using the AI Assistant and then I’ll take bits and pieces from each of them to use for the final caption. It’s a great tool to use for brainstorming and to give you a starting point on your captions!
