Seattle waste reduction startup Ridwell started collecting more difficult types of plastic to recycle in its bid to keep more trash out of landfills. Multi-layer plastic — such as chip bags, candy wrappers and more — is sent to partners that make a variety of products including artificial stone and building materials. Ridwell has grown to 80,000 members across seven states. Read more.

Microsoft has started rolling out Windows Copilot to participants in its Windows Insider preview program. First announced a month ago, this AI tool will offer ChatGPT-powered queries in a persistent sidebar, let users control and access Windows settings with natural language commands, and use AI to summarize and compose text across multiple apps. AI for business documents: Seattle startup Docugami, which uses AI to extract data from documents and files, won a $1 million National Science Foundation grant to further its work. One of the company’s investors and board members, Bob Muglia, talked about the startup as part of a broader conversation on this recent GeekWire Podcast episode.

Tech Moves:

  • Madrona Venture Group added three venture partners: former DocuSign COO Loren Alhadeff; former Tableau CEO Mark Nelson; and former Microsoft exec Ted Kummert.

  • Healthcare startup DexCare named telemedicine vet Robin Borg as its new chief people officer.

  • With the trial now over, and many industry secrets revealed, a ruling is expected in days or weeks, not months, in the FTC’s case against Microsoft’s $69 billion Activision-Blizzard acquisition. Microsoft and Activision say an adverse ruling would torpedo the deal. (Axios)

  • Why not let state legislators attend hearings and vote virtually? That idea, advanced by the group Vote Mama, is one of the “commonsense reforms” cited by Melinda French Gates in an opinion piece this week about the importance of getting more women into public office. (TIME)
