If you're into investigating the quirks and other anomalies of a particular programming language, you might want to check out a GitHub repo by Kim Bouchouaram called Tragic Methods.

As the README explains, it's "A collection of scripts depicting the strange quirks of programming languages."

It currently covers eight different languages, but most of the sections are still in early stages. The most populated section is (of course!) is the JavaScript section. No surprise seeing how popular JavaScript is but also how bizarre it can be.

Tragic Methods

The JavaScript section covers peculiarities on the following topics:

  • Array Sorting
  • Automatic Semicolon Insertion
  • Conflicting Completion Records
  • indexOf without arguments
  • Infinite Circular References
  • NaN
  • Proxy Chains
  • Schrodinger's regex
  • typeof null

Some of these I already knew about but a lot of them were new to me, and I'm sure some will be new to you. Worth checking out if you like to examine some of the weird parts of JavaScript.

The other languages include Go, C, C++, Java, Python, and PHP, and a few others. But, like I said, the only section that has a significant amount of content is the JavaScript one. If you're familiar with the quirks of any of these languages, maybe you can contribute something!

Now on to this week's tools!
