Foldable phones are in a very strange place right now, especially for Samsung. Five generations in, the company's newest flip-style foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, still simultaneously feels new and old.

If you've never owned a flip-style foldable before, everything about the Z Flip 5 is refreshing. That it folds in half; the various "Flex" modes for doing a task or using an app; the unavoidable crease. And if you're already a Z Flip owner or have one from a different brand, the Z Flip 5 is familiar and evolutionary; the larger "Flex Window" cover screen is an iterative upgrade; the cameras could be improved.

That's the reality with foldables right now. Flip-style or book-style like the Z Fold 5, foldables have been perpetually cutting-edge phones for the past few years, but still not yet the norm. Unless something changes soon — like Apple makes a foldable iPhone — I think that might remain the case for a while.

I can find no major faults to Z Flip 5, and I've tried every generation of them. Sure, there are little things to nitpick and the price could stand to drop below $999 for a change, but as a whole, the Z Flip 5 is the most reliable and durable flip-style foldable experience there is — for the fourth year in a row.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson just announced a new space race — sort of.

Earlier this week, at a press conference at Kennedy Space Center for NASA’s Artemis II mission, Nelson expressed concern over what would happen if China arrived at the south pole of the Moon before the United States and denied other countries access to key landing sites and the water ice that’s known to be in the area.

“The space race is really between us and China,” said Nelson. “And we need to protect the interests of the international community for exactly the reasons I've laid out.”
