Sheryl Lee Ralph You Will Always Be Famous

To me (and probably most Black people) Sheryl Lee Ralph has always been famous. I was introduced to her as Moesha’s step-mom Dee and Rita’s mom in The Sister Act 2. When I found out she was one of the original Dreamgirls, via a YouTube deep dive after I saw the movie senior year of high school, it blew my mind! It appears we won’t be seeing Ms. Barbara on our screens this fall. Full disclosure: I’m a member of WGAE and of course support both our and the SAG-AFTRA strike — we all should. Fortunately, we have 4 decades of work to look back on.

I never saw it for that man. Good riddance, Keke! Our girl has a way of turning what could become a mess into a moment. In general, I’m excited about music as of late. I was unsure about Victoria Monet’s latest single “On My Mama.” Call it interpolation fatigue but the video is ICONIC. It reminds me of summers spent in Atlanta, watching Ciara’s music videos on repeat, trying to get all the moves down. I’m saving the new Noname album for a flight I’m taking in 2 weeks but I’ve heard good things.
