Flow State - Tatsuro Murakami
You’re on the free tier of Flow State – weekday recommendations of music perfect for working (no vocals). To unlock our Tuesday mixes and Spotify playlists, upgrade to paid. Good morning. Today we’re listening to Tatsuro Murakami, a guitarist and composer from Tokyo. We previously recommended him in March 2022. Across the 2010s Murakami made several trips to Brazil to study the nation’s musical traditions, taking up 7-string guitar in the process.¹ His own pieces fuse Japanese environmental music with Brazilian pop style. His latest album, An Imaginary Autumn, came out a little over a week ago and hews more toward ambient. We’re also re-upping his 2020 record, Between, whose title is a translation of the Japanese concept 間 (“Ma”) or “the interstice between two things.”² An Imaginary Autumn - Tatsuro Murakami (40m, no vocals) Between - Tatsuro Murakami (40m, no vocals) We wish you a great start to your week.
