Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — November 10, 2023

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you. I added an extra bullet this time around to keep things spicy.
What I’m watching
Wild Tales by Pedro Almodóvar. This was recommended to me by a Colombian friend, as I wanted to resurrect my Spanish prior to a trip to South America. It’s gorgeously shot, impeccably directed, and it will make you laugh and cringe in equal measure. Here’s the description: “[An] award-winning anthology from Argentina composed of six short films united by a common theme of tragedy, revenge, and violence found in everyday detail. Nominated for 2015 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.” You can find the trailer here.
Short article I’m reading
“Take a Wife … Please!” by Olga Khazan for The Atlantic. Here’s an alternate link if the prior link gives you trouble. Hat tip to Spider Monkey for putting this on my radar.
Longer profile I’m reading
“Ridley Scott’s ‘Napoleon’ Complex” by Michael Schulman for The New Yorker. Ridley Scott is the filmmaker behind cult classics and mega-blockbusters, such as Blade Runner, Gladiator, Alien, Black Hawk Down, and many more. He is also the director behind the iconic Apple “1984” commercial. Millions know his movies, but far fewer realize that Ridley didn’t release his first feature film until he was 40. Bonus: for a 10-second laugh involving Ridley Scott that you won’t get in the profile, take a gander at this.
Podcast episodes I’m listening to
“Ayahuasca and Tobacco Shamanism: An Interview with Ethnobotanist Dr. Glenn Shepard” (Apple Podcasts, Spotify) on the Plants of the Gods podcast. Here is part 1 of the interview, and you can find part 2 here. For more from host Dr. Mark Plotkin, check out his recent guest episode on my podcast, which explored all things coffee.
New person I’m following on Instagram
Hikaru Kawasaki. For some of the most absurd body control I’ve ever seen, check this and this out.
Quote I’m pondering
“The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see.”
― James Baldwin

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my brand-new interview with Deputy Director of the Harvard Negotiation Project Sheila Heen on mastering feedback, my conversation with attachment expert Dr. Sue Johnson, and my interview with renowned psychotherapist Esther Perel.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
