Savour - under the tree
This is savour: notes on the delicious things in life, delivered every Wednesday. Thank you for being a free member! If you enjoy getting these emails or find yourself telling your pals about them, you may want to consider upgrading your subscription. For £3.50 a month, you’ll receive savourites, my Friday dispatch of notes from the week, along with recommendations of things to read, eat and generally indulge in, and support my work more meaningfully. It is December, and I have not bought a single Christmas present. I have not even thought about Christmas presents, or really Christmas. I went into town the other morning, bright and early, and marvelled at this other city that seemed to have sprung up - one made of trees and lights and wreaths around windows. It was a crisp winter’s day, the kind that helps the grey of London’s buildings really shine. It was beautiful, and it was a surprise. I felt like a character in a film who sleepwalks through the seasons. Last year I made more of a fuss of the notion of giving a savour subscription. This year it hadn’t really crossed my mind, but over the past few days several kind people have mentioned giving a subscription and then the gorgeous India Hobson recommended it in her gorgeous newsletter and, well, here we are. I still have some postcards in a special little box in the Hut, and I’m happy to write a personalised note and post these out so your person has something to open - just reply to this with the address by December 15. Savour isn’t going anywhere. In fact, there are changes afoot next year and I think I may finally be able to give it the space and time to grow that I’ve been craving for so long. A gift subscription to savour is one of writing twice a week that encourages you to slow down, to look more closely, to try new things and to think differently. It’s something that will only take up space in an inbox, rather than collect dust on a shelf. I’m offering a 20% discount on gift subscriptions throughout December, mostly because everything is so expensive out there and if you’ve left Christmas until now like me, there’s a lot of stuff to be bought over the next few weeks. If you fancy making that gift direct to yourself, I won’t tell anyone ;) You’re a free subscriber to savour. If you enjoy my work, you can support it by becoming a paid subscriber. You’ll receive subscriber-only savourites - weekly dispatches of good morsels I’ve encountered - as well as access to exclusive events, the savour community and the newsletter archive. |
