Dear Poet 2024 Poems and Videos Now Available

Every National Poetry Month we present Dear Poet, a multimedia education project that invites young people in grades five through twelve to write letters in response to poems written and read by award-winning poets.

The Dear Poet 2024 videos are now available, and feature poets Leila ChattiChen ChenMarilyn ChinNicole Cecilia DelgadoNikky FinneyJohn JamesMara PastorEd Roberson, and Patricia Smith.

The submission period for Dear Poet 2024 will open on January 11, 2024, and close on April 22, 2024. Supplementary teaching prompts will be available in January from 826 National. Learn more about Dear Poet 2024

To celebrate the holidays in December, share poems about Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, and more with our selection of holiday poems for kids and poems about beginnings, featuring poets such as Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and Christina Rossetti

Co-Poet Laureate of Altadena, California, Carla Rachel Sameth, invites you, your students, and your educational communities to a workshop held in the Altadena Main Library at 600 East Mariposa Street, Altadena, CA. 

The next workshop “Nature as Metaphor,” takes place on Saturday, January 13, and brings seniors (55+) and high school students together to write poems inspired by nature as a metaphor for some aspect of human life and experience, personal or universal.
