In 1981, the punk band The Young Aborigines replaced its bassist with Adam “MCA” Yauch and transformed into the Beastie Boys.¹ The group went on to be one of the most chart-topping and best-selling hip-hop groups of all time. In 1996 they released an instrumental compilation, The In Sound From Way Out!, which DJ Chroma brought back to our attention earlier this year. We’re playing that record as well as Paul’s Boutique from 1989, which pioneered the use of sampling to construct an entire album.
