Morfternight #104: Vision Pro, what else?
Hi there! I am Paolo Belcastro. You are reading this because you subscribed to Morfternight, the digital postcard about photography, leadership, product management, distributed teams, AI, and anything that tickles our brains. Welcome to Morfternight, your weekly digital postcard. 👇 tl;drToday, a short one to break the negative streak. A photo, a few links about the Apple Vision Pro, a link to the blog, some poll results and an upcoming migration. 👋 Good Morfternight!January went by so fast, didn’t it? So fast that Morfternight became monthly… 📷 A Postcard from ViennaIt’s never too early to start riding your bike through the city. And when you reach your destination, make sure you park it properly! 🗳️ You voted, you decidedI asked your opinion about the Morfternight name, after receiving some feedback about the fact it wasn’t super simple to remember and spell. With 38% of the votes, Morfternight wins, which, to be sincere, makes me happy. To moderate the spelling problem, and noticing that the most common error was forgetting the first “r,” I also registered Mofternight.com, just in case. 🙂 🥽 The Vision Pro landed (if you live in the USA)In 2007, when the iPhone first launched, I managed to put my hands on one from the very beginning. It wasn’t even usable in Europe as a phone until @geohot managed to unlock it from the AT&T SIM cards. It was the beginning of the second computing revolution initiated by Apple, but nobody knew it yet. This time, it feels like many agree we are at the beginning of the third computing revolution initiated by Apple (the first was the Macintosh, 40 years ago), and once more it is limited to the US for now. Unlike the iPhone, though, the Vision Pro is bulkier, heavier, more expensive, and requires a fitting in a US Apple Store, so I’ll have to wait. If you have no idea what the Vision Pro is, check the reviews by John Gruber, Joanna Stern, Marques Brownlee, or Nilay Patel. Or maybe you have already watched and read all of those, and then here’s a teardown by IFixit. If you don’t have time, here’s the gist: like when the first iPhone was launched, this device shows what the future could look like, while being limited by the current state of technology. In other words, within a few years the technical problems will have been solved, the price divided by ten, and everyone will wear their computer on their face all the time. I am not sure how I feel about that… and you? 💻 Leaving SubstackLater this week, I’ll migrate Morfternight to WordPress, to have it join the blog. For you, no change, and nothing to do. I know I haven’t been writing regularly as of late, but I will send a new issue next Sunday, so if you do not receive, it, please take a minute and check your spam folder, as the sender’s address will change. ✍️ From the blogSpeaking of the blog, I just published a short article about The risks of outsourcing your customer experience. That's it for today. Thank you for being a Morfternighter! If you enjoyed reading this, please don’t hesitate to share it. If someone forwarded this to you, you can subscribe. I also write and publish my photos on paolo.blog. If you know someone who would enjoy Morfternight, please share with them. Cheers! |
